Highams Green is a large residential development in the heart of Highams Park, North East London. Part of the Spenhill regeneration of Highams Park for the Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association, it combines modern living spaces and community garden with a range of retail units. McLaren was appointed as the main contractor on three major phases of the development – the second included the construction of 22 apartments and a Tesco superstore.
Following the successful work on the earlier phases, McLaren carried out the construction of block A and block B apartments. Block A consists of 18 private sale apartments, built to Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH) Level 4, within the footprint of a 37,000 sq ft Format 42 Tesco superstore. Block B consists of four high specification open market apartments located above retail units. Both blocks achieve the maximum potential and minimum standards set by the NHBC “Life Time Homes” and “Secured by Design” (SBD).
The Tesco development includes basement car parking, a first floor service yard, a customer car park, community space, retail units, business units and four light industrial units with associated offices.
To facilitate access and egress, McLaren carried out large civil and infrastructure works as part of the contract. These included reconfiguring sections of the main road, introducing traffic lights and providing a pedestrian crossing and traffic island.
